Craft is made up of technique and it is something that can be taught, usually by someone who has mastered a technique. The technique is often rooted to the medium; such as draughtsmanship, watercolour paining, oil painting, wood carving, oboe playing, stone sculpture, movie direction, ballet dancing.
Design is the rational mental exercise of building relationships within your artwork; such as composition, palette choice, subject matter and how it will be depicted. This can be taught to a certain extent, but requires experience and practice to master.
Poetry comes from within, and it’s something that cannot be taught. It is an insight. Poetry comes from experience, observation, introspection, realisation, wit and wisdom and it is inherently unique to each individual.
